In 1997, Joe Trainor and Ed Stokes bought a dealership here, and Joe moved from Charleston to Newberry all within 3 week’s time. Joe states, “Looking back on that day, it was one of the most fulfilling days of my life. I came here with my wife Carla, who was born and raised in Prosperity, started a family and built a business in a community that I really love and am proud to be a part of!”

“My philosophy is if you take something out of a community, you should be willing to put something back into it. That is what drives me to do what I do each day. Each time a customer or a visitor walks through our door, I never take it for granted. They are doing me a favor by coming here.”

Joe has been in the automobile business most of his life and has seen an evolution of change throughout the years. He states, “Even in the past several years of a sluggish economy, our business has continued to thrive and move forward for one main reason - the confidence in our dealership from the people of Newberry and the surrounding area.”

“Our service and parts division is the backbone and heartbeat of our business. Most customers will come back to the dealership over 15 times for service and maintenance work before they come back to replace or purchase another car or truck. We believe we must set our service standards higher than anyone else. It is a requirement for all of our technicians to hold the National ASE certification in addition to their factory GM training. Our service and parts employees have over 350 years of combined vehicle service experience. Not only do we service General Motors vehicles, we have technicians that service most makes and models of vehicles such as Toyota, Ford, Dodge, Jeep, Volkswagon, Honda, etc.”

Stokes-Trainor consistently has a higher customer satisfaction rating when compared to other GM dealers. They put in the extra effort to make your buying or service experience more enjoyable.  In 2008 Stokes-Trainor was voted the “Best Service Department” in The State newspaper’s “Annual Best List.” The dealership is always ranked “Best New Car Dealer” by readers of the Newberry Observer.
