Quality of Life
Newberry County is less than one hour from the metropolitan areas of Columbia and Greenville-Spartanburg. Lake Murray and Lake Greenwood, two large man-made lakes, add miles of recreational and scenic shorelines to the county. The mild climate and productive farmland make it a good location for agriculture and forestry, while a progressive attitude for economic development is attractive to industries.
Founded in 1785, Newberry County enjoys a proud and diverse cultural heritage. Newberry College, a Lutheran-supported liberal arts school was founded in 1856. The county seat of Newberry offers the security of a small town with a convenient downtown district. The newly renovated Newberry Opera House is a cultural center for the region.
